Christopher Redford is the City of Hamilton’s Heritage Presentation Co-ordinator. He helps produce many of the plaques and markers across the city; including the one at the Hamilton and Scourge National Historical Site at the Naval Memorial Garden in Confederation Park.
The Hamilton and Scourge were merchant ships that the American Navy brought into service prior to the War of 1812. They capsized in Lake Ontario and are the only complete 1812 war ships to rest under 300 feet of water. Christopher will present the history of the ships as well as how using first-hand accounts and sonar technology, these wrecks have been found and investigated.
We will try to hold this as a hybrid meeting, Zoom link will be added closer to the event.
At each of our meetings there is a brief period allotted to the business of the Society, followed by a speaker, or presentation on some aspect of local history or heritage. Afterward there are refreshments and conversation which play an important part in keeping alive the Community spirit. We hope to see you there!
