Linda Zelem is the Public Relations Co-ordinator for the Federal Women’s Institute of Canada. Prior to this position, she was the president for the organization. She is also a member and instructor for the Ontario Hunter Education Program.

The first Women’s Institute was founded in 1897 in Stoney Creek by Erland and Janet Lee. They invited a group of women to hear Adelaide Hoodless speak about the importance of women engaging in formal domestic education to the success of family and the nation. Linda will tell us about the women’s work towards agricultural improvement, lobbying for women’s and children’s rights, and their work during WWI as well as their work today.

We will try to hold this as a hybrid meeting, Zoom link will be added closer to the event.

At each of our meetings there is a brief period allotted to the business of the Society, followed by a speaker, or presentation on some aspect of local history or heritage. Afterward there are refreshments and conversation which play an important part in keeping alive the Community spirit. We hope to see you there!
